Battery

How do I charge my on-board computer?

There are two ways to charge your on-board computer:
1. If the on-board computer is in the eBike's display mount, the eBike battery has sufficient charge and the eBike system is switched on, the eBike battery will supply the on-board computer battery with power.

2. The on-board computer can also be charged via the USB port. To do this, open the protective cap. Connect the USB socket of the on-board computer to a standard USB charger (not included as standard) or the USB port of a computer (with a 5 V charging voltage and max. 500 mA charging current) using a micro-USB cable.

Please note:
Bosch eBike on-board computers can only be charged while switched on.

How long will the on-board computer battery last if I remove the on-board computer from the eBike?

You can usually run Kiox with the battery fully charged for at least 20 minutes without a power supply. If it is inactive for 60 seconds, Kiox automatically shuts off.

FAQ / Global
ABS

How does ABS work?

eBike ABS from Bosch enables more efficient braking. Bicycle brakes have become stronger over the years (hydraulic disc brakes). eBike ABS was developed to control their performance, particularly in critical (emergency) braking situations. Wheel speed sensors on both wheels can detect when the brakes lock and the braking force is automatically adjusted via software and control. This reduces the risk of being thrown over the handlebar on high-grip surfaces and of falling on slippery surfaces.

What information will I see in relation to the ABS and how does the indicator light work?

A separate ABS light will be fitted on the handlebar or preferably the stem on all eBikes (not Kiox). This indicator light shows the status of the ABS functionality in a similar manner to standard car display instruments.
If the indicator light goes out when reaching approx. 5 km/h after the system is switched on, the ABS is ready for use.
If the indicator light remains on or turns on when riding, there is an error in the ABS system. The ABS function is deactivated, but normal braking function of the brake is nevertheless still available.
The error code displayed in the on-board computer is described in detail in the operating instructions for your on-board computer. Please proceed as described there. If in doubt please always contact your Bosch eBike dealer.
In the case of the Kiox on-board computer, the ABS light appears in the Kiox display.
The indicator light behaves in exactly the same way.

Is ABS retrofittable?

What maps are available on my Nyon?

As a rule there are no maps pre-installed on the Nyon. You can install free maps on your Nyon as follows:
1. Select the "Map & Navigation" menu item
2. Select "Map Management"
3. Select the required maps and follow the instructions on your Nyon.

If you are using the system "offline" you can obtain maps from Bosch eBike experts.
The DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) maps are pre-installed. Maps can be added and deleted directly via the on-board computer. Go to the navigation screen > Magnifying glass > Map settings > Offline maps.

How does the streaming of maps between the smartphone and Nyon work?

If a Bluetooth connection is enabled between the smartphone and your on-board computer, Nyon will use maps from the Internet for navigation. However maps are not saved on either Nyon or the smartphone.
Nyon simply keeps currently required maps in its cache for navigation purposes and automatically loads the areas needed for navigation as necessary.

Please note: if Nyon accesses the Internet through your smartphone, roaming charges may be incurred when abroad.

Where do the maps come from?

The electronic maps are based on OpenStreetMap, or OSM for short.
The maps have been optimised by Bosch for use on Nyon and for a simple, high-contrast display and show not only bike paths but also various surfaces as well as bicycle-specific elements such as steps. Map elements that are not relevant to eBike use are modified or less prominently displayed (e.g. motorways).

How does Nyon guide me along the stopovers entered?

In Nyon, you can choose whether you want to be guided to the starting point or to the first stopover under "Map & Navigation" > "Navigate"> "Saved Routes". This also applies to routes with no stopovers. It is also possible to skip to the next stopover. The familiar standard navigation function is used for this.
For route planning carried out in the portal, up to 10 stopovers can be set. Following synchronisation of the route with Nyon, the stopovers are taken into account on the route as planned in the portal.

Why doesn't Nyon guide me to my selected stopover?

In some cases, a selected and set stopover on your route may not be directly accessible. For example, you may have selected a location in the middle of a building or body of water on your route with stopovers. However, you can skip stopovers at any time and continue the route.

Use the following settings for iOS: set the authorisation under "Location" to "Always". If you only want to use the navigation function, it is sufficient to set the location authorisation to "When using the app".
Use the following settings for Android: If you have enabled the Geolocation data option, you should set the location authorisation to "Always allow".
As a general rule: In order to use navigation with Kiox, Bluetooth must be enabled and Kiox must be connected to your smartphone.

Are there quality differences during navigation depending on the smartphone model used?

Among other factors, the quality of navigation depends on the quality of the Bluetooth or GPS reception.
Because the smartphone manufacturers use hardware of differing quality in their products, the quality of the navigation on Kiox can also vary.

Is the navigation function for Kiox available in all countries?

No, no support is available in Japan.

Is navigation free of charge on Kiox?

Yes, this function is free of charge for eBike Connect users.

How can I navigate GPX routes with Kiox?

FAQ / Fitness
Fitness

How do I use the on-board computer as a fitness motivator?

The "Speed Goal Indicator" allows you to continuously measure your current speed against your average. Select the Kiox start screen for this. The vertical black line shows you the average value. The white bar indicates whether you are currently above or below the average speed.
Note: If you set the background colour to bright, the line of the average is white and the bar that shows your current speed is black.
"Fitness" operating mode gives you a full-fledged fitness computer. Nyon keeps track of your eBike activities and gives you feedback on how these affect your fitness. For this reason, it is a good idea to first register in the eBike Connect online portal and provide information about your physical fitness. It also makes sense to use a heart rate monitor belt with Bluetooth transmitter.
In some tiles (speed, cadence, power), a goal indicator (top left corner) is displayed in addition to the displayed value. Here, the average value is displayed in the centre and the rider sees whether he or she is currently above (bar to right of central value) or below (bar to left of central value) of the relevant average value.

Tiles with a goal indicator can be selected under "Settings > Screen management".

What fitness data can the on-board computer display?

Kiox shows you the current power, the current cadence and, if a heart rate monitor is connected, the heart rate.
In "Fitness" mode you will see your performance in Watts, your calorie consumption, your current cadence, and your current speed. If you connect a heart rate monitor, you will see your heart rate instead of the cadence.
You can select various fitness values via Settings > Personalisation > Modify. Examples here include the current power, the current cadence and, if a heart rate monitor is connected, the heart rate.

What is meant by training effect?

The term "training effect" describes the effect of your activities on your endurance performance. The training effect is displayed in "Fitness" mode on the on-board computer in the form of a three-quarter circle in the left display area. It is divided into the following steps: Regeneration, Maintaining fitness, Improving fitness, Highly improving and Overreaching. The training effect is calculated from pedal power and the duration of the eBike trip. The rider's age, height, weight and activity level are included in the calculation. This makes it possible to determine if the rider is overreaching, depending on his fitness level.

Wearing a heart rate monitor belt increases the accuracy of the training effect. Calculation then takes place on the basis of the heart rate and the duration of an eBike trip.

Where can I make fitness settings on the eBike Connect app?

You can enter your health data in your profile. Go to More > Settings > My Profile > Fitness. These can be adjusted after activation to customise health-related values, such as calories. If this item is deactivated, generic data is used.
